Is it your instrument drifting, or your process?
When a process capability number comes out, everyone looks at the process. But that number is the sum of two things: the real variation of the process and the variation of the MEASUREMENT SYSTEM itself. If the second is large, the number describes the gauge rather than the process. It misleads in both directions: a good process looks bad, and a bad one stays hidden. This is why measurement system analysis comes BEFORE process analysis — if the instrument cannot be trusted, capability numbers mean nothing. SenSight QMS asks the question at the very top of the screen: is the instrument itself trustworthy?
